Beginning January 1st 2017, SLEEP will be published by Oxford University Press. Unfortunately, that website is experiencing some technical issues. We expect to have them resolved shortly and apologize for your inconvenience. We will notify all subscribers once the problem is resolved and thank you for your patience.
Media & Public Relations: Embargo Policy
Manuscripts accepted for publication in the journal SLEEP are under embargo until they are posted online in the “Accepted Papers” section of the SLEEP website. Once an accepted paper is available online, it can be highlighted in press releases and shared with news media. Please note, however, that an accepted paper is available online to SLEEP subscribers only. Furthermore, the hyperlink to an accepted paper is no longer valid once the study is published in an issue of the journal. Therefore, immediate publicity of an accepted paper that has been posted online is allowed but is discouraged.
After the acceptance of a paper, and prior to its publication in an issue of SLEEP, the study abstract will be submitted to PubMed and posted online as “ahead of print” (AOP). Abstracts typically are posted on PubMed as AOP approximately 30 days after the paper is accepted for publication. It is preferable for publicity of an accepted paper to occur after the abstract has been posted on PubMed or after the full study has been published in an issue of SLEEP. This timing enables reporters to include a link to the abstract in their online news coverage, and it also allows health care professionals and the general public to access the findings of a study that they may read or hear about in the news.
Press releases highlighting an accepted paper should note that, “The study has been accepted for publication in an upcoming issue of the journal SLEEP.”
New issues of the journal typically are published online at 3 p.m. Eastern Time on the last day of the month, or on the preceding Friday when the last day of the month falls on a weekend or holiday. To obtain the estimated date when an accepted abstract will be posted on PubMed or the scheduled publication date of a study in SLEEP, please contact the journal's editorial office at 630-737-9702.
